A 5 Layer Information Expressivity Model Applied to Semantic Heterogeneity in a Decentralised Organisation

چکیده

This paper discusses some issues associated with systems evolution in a decentralised organisation. The divisions of the particular organisation are functionally very similar but territorially decentralised and managerially autonomous. The paper considers the real case of an engineering fault logging system which has different versions in use by the different divisions of the organisation. It reviews the limitations of the standard architechtural approachs in the light of work on semantic heterogeneity. A recently proposed five layer model of information expressivity provides the theoretical framework for classifying the system variants. This approach allows us to focus on the layer requiring essential changes when seeking to interoperate these systems. We have chosen two examples from our case study; one example requires changes beginning at the semantic (business rule) layer and the other requires changes beginning at the schema (attribute representation) layer. The examples show the success of the five layer model in disentangling the semantics involved in this type of version change system interoperation.

A semantic-aware role-based access control model for pervasive computing environments

Access control in open and dynamic Pervasive Computing Environments (PCEs) is a very complex mechanism and encompasses various new requirements. In fact, in such environments, context information should be used in access control decision process; however, it is not applicable to gather all context information completely and accurately all the time. Thus, a suitable access control model for PCEs...

Decentralisation of Health Services in Fiji: A Decision Space Analysis

Background Decentralisation aims to bring services closer to the community and has been advocated in the health sector to improve quality, access and equity, and to empower local agencies, increase innovation and efficiency and bring healthcare and decision-making as close as possible to where people live and work. Fiji has attempted two approaches to decentralisation. The current approach refl...

A Decentralized and Ontology-Based Approach to Infrastructure Monitoring

We introduce infrastructure monitoring as an application domain that demands decentralized system designs. This is motivated by the large scale of these systems, the heterogeneity of components and the large number of stakeholders involved. Decentralization aggravates the issue of semantic interoperability, which we propose to tackle with a system information model based on formal ontologies. A...

Dynamics of Love-Type Waves in Orthotropic Layer Under the Influence of Heterogeneity and Corrugation

The present problem deals with the propagation of Love-type surface waves in a bedded structure comprises of an inhomogeneous orthotropic layer and an elastic half-space. The upper boundary and the interface between two media are considered to be corrugated. An analytical method (separation of variables) is adapted to solve the second order PDEs, which governs the equations of motion. Equations...

AHP Techniques for Trust Evaluation in Semantic Web

The increasing reliance on information gathered from the web and other internet technologies raise the issue of trust. Through the development of semantic Web, One major difficulty is that, by its very nature, the semantic web is a large, uncensored system to which anyone may contribute. This raises the question of how much credence to give each resource. Each user knows the trustworthiness of ...
